In new street additions, Móng Cái built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then shifted to more disconnected patterns, while Alangulam built increasingly disconnected streets over time and Dengkou built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved. For the full network, Móng Cái became more connected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then grew more sprawly from 1991-2005 onwards, while Alangulam became progressively more disconnected and Dengkou grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved. Móng Cái and Alangulam have been converging in their street-network character since 1975.
