The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Afşin plotted against K. Maras and Turkey. The SNDi of new construction in Afşin was at its lowest in 1976-1990, compared to K. Maras which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and Turkey which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Afşin's incremental SNDi rose from 1.88 to 2.0 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Afşin ranked 3rd out of 3 cities in K. Maras and 66th out of 174 in Turkey as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
While Tirtol and Vuyyuru both built increasingly disconnected streets over time, Afşin built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then shifted to more disconnected patterns in new street additions. Looking at the full network, Tirtol and Vuyyuru both became progressively more disconnected, while Afşin became more connected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then grew more sprawly from 1976-1990 onwards. Afşin and Tirtol have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
