Valencia in context: Street-network sprawl trends

The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Valencia plotted against Bukidnon and Philippines. While Bukidnon and Philippines both rose steadily, Valencia's new street additions rose steadily. Most recently, Valencia's incremental SNDi rose from 4.53 to 5.68 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Valencia ranked 1st out of 1 cities in Bukidnon and 31st out of 114 in Philippines as of 2020.

In new street additions, Valencia and Orsha both built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while Erechim fluctuated in its street-construction patterns. For the full street network, though, all three cities follow the same trend. Valencia and Orsha have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
