The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Maiduguri plotted against Borno and Nigeria. The SNDi of new construction in Maiduguri fell steadily, compared to Borno which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and Nigeria which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Maiduguri's incremental SNDi fell from 2.14 to 2.12 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Maiduguri ranked 12th out of 16 cities in Borno and 98th out of 422 in Nigeria as of 2020.

In new street additions, Maiduguri built increasingly connected streets over time, while Cologne built increasingly disconnected streets over time and Đà Nẵng built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved. For the full network, Maiduguri became progressively more connected, while Cologne became progressively more disconnected and Đà Nẵng grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved. Maiduguri and Cologne have been converging in their street-network character since 1975.
