The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Biu plotted against Borno and Nigeria. The SNDi of new construction in Biu rose steadily, compared to Borno which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and Nigeria which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Biu's incremental SNDi rose from 2.74 to 3.8 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Biu ranked 16th out of 16 cities in Borno and 137th out of 422 in Nigeria as of 2020.

In new street additions, Biu built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while Golmud fluctuated in its street-construction patterns and Yakutsk fluctuated in its street-construction patterns. For the full network, Biu became progressively more disconnected, while Golmud became progressively more connected and Yakutsk fluctuated in connectivity. Biu and Golmud have been converging in their street-network character since 1975.
