The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Thanlyin plotted against Yangon and Myanmar. The SNDi of new construction in Thanlyin rose steadily, compared to Yangon which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and Myanmar which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Thanlyin's incremental SNDi rose from 3.23 to 3.83 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Thanlyin ranked 6th out of 13 cities in Yangon and 49th out of 113 in Myanmar as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
In new street additions, Thanlyin and Netrokona both built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while Kamarda fluctuated in its street-construction patterns. For the full network, Thanlyin and Netrokona both became progressively more disconnected, while Kamarda became more connected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then grew more sprawly from 1976-1990 onwards. Thanlyin and Kamarda have been converging in their street-network character since 1975.
