The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Vientiane plotted against Vientiane [prefecture] and Laos. The SNDi of new construction in Vientiane rose steadily, compared to Vientiane [prefecture] which rose steadily and Laos which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Vientiane's incremental SNDi rose from 5.51 to 6.23 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Vientiane ranked 1st out of 1 cities in Vientiane [prefecture] and 2nd out of 3 in Laos as of 2020.

In new street additions, Vientiane built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while Verona fluctuated in its street-construction patterns and Laibin built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved. For the full network, Vientiane and Verona both became progressively more disconnected, while Laibin grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved. Vientiane and Laibin have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
