The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Hofu plotted against Yamaguchi and Japan. The SNDi of new construction in Hofu peaked in 1991-2005, compared to Yamaguchi which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and Japan which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Hofu's incremental SNDi fell from 3.73 to 2.54 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Hofu ranked 3rd out of 5 cities in Yamaguchi and 125th out of 135 in Japan as of 2020.

In new street additions, Hofu built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved, while Mingshui fluctuated in its street-construction patterns and Serui Kota built increasingly disconnected streets over time. For the full network, Hofu grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved, while Mingshui fluctuated in connectivity and Serui Kota became progressively more disconnected. Notably, Hofu had a more sprawly network than Serui Kota in 1975 but the two have since reversed their relative ranking.
