What about similarly populated cities?
Jambi, Mérida, and Huangshi all fluctuated in its street-construction patterns in new street construction. For the full network, Jambi and Mérida both became progressively more disconnected, while Huangshi grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved. Jambi and Huangshi have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
