Kushinagar in context: Street-network sprawl trends

The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Kushinagar plotted against Uttar Pradesh and India. The SNDi of new construction in Kushinagar fell steadily, compared to Uttar Pradesh which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and India which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Kushinagar's incremental SNDi fell from 3.73 to 3.67 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Kushinagar ranked 123rd out of 291 cities in Uttar Pradesh and 891st out of 1868 in India as of 2020.

In new street additions, Kushinagar built increasingly connected streets over time, while Divo built increasingly disconnected streets over time and Sragen fluctuated in its street-construction patterns. Looking at the full network, Divo and Sragen both became progressively more disconnected, while Kushinagar became progressively more connected. Kushinagar and Divo have been converging in their street-network character since 1975.
