Bharthana in context: Street-network sprawl trends

The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Bharthana plotted against Uttar Pradesh and India. The SNDi of new construction in Bharthana followed a zig-zag trend with an overall decrease, compared to Uttar Pradesh which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and India which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Bharthana's incremental SNDi fell from 3.19 to 3.07 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Bharthana ranked 139th out of 291 cities in Uttar Pradesh and 979th out of 1868 in India as of 2020.

While Salihli and Ningjin both fluctuated in its street-construction patterns, Bharthana fluctuated in its street-construction patterns in new street additions. Looking at the full network, Salihli and Ningjin both became progressively more disconnected, while Bharthana became progressively more connected. Bharthana and Salihli have been converging in their street-network character since 1975.
