Junagarh in context: Street-network sprawl trends

The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Junagarh plotted against Odisha and India. The SNDi of new construction in Junagarh fell steadily, compared to Odisha which rose steadily and India which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Junagarh's incremental SNDi fell from 1.45 to 0.82 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Junagarh ranked 4th out of 58 cities in Odisha and 133rd out of 1868 in India as of 2020.

While Gemlik and Lautoka both built increasingly disconnected streets over time, Junagarh built increasingly connected streets over time in new street additions. Looking at the full network, Gemlik and Lautoka both became progressively more disconnected, while Junagarh became progressively more connected. Junagarh and Gemlik have been converging in their street-network character since 1975.
