Chikkaballapura in context: Street-network sprawl trends

The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Chikkaballapura plotted against Karnataka and India. The SNDi of new construction in Chikkaballapura rose steadily, compared to Karnataka which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and India which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Chikkaballapura's incremental SNDi rose from 3.07 to 3.8 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Chikkaballapura ranked 39th out of 96 cities in Karnataka and 455th out of 1868 in India as of 2020.

In new street additions, Chikkaballapura and Pengxi both built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while 락원1동 built increasingly connected streets over time. For the full network, Chikkaballapura and Pengxi both became progressively more disconnected, while 락원1동 became progressively more connected. Notably, Chikkaballapura had a more connected network than Pengxi in 1975 but the two have since reversed their relative ranking.
