Phusro in context: Street-network sprawl trends

The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Phusro plotted against Jharkhand and India. The SNDi of new construction in Phusro followed a zig-zag trend, compared to Jharkhand which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and India which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. In terms of the aggregate network, Phusro ranked 25th out of 46 cities in Jharkhand and 1073rd out of 1868 in India as of 2020.

Rankings go from most connected to most disconnected — rank 1 is the most connected.

While Amuntai and Bethuadahari both built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved, Phusro fluctuated in its street-construction patterns in new street additions. For the full network, Phusro became progressively more disconnected, while Amuntai became progressively more disconnected and Bethuadahari grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved. Notably, Phusro had a more sprawly network than Amuntai in 1975 but the two have since reversed their relative ranking.
