Khunti in context: Street-network sprawl trends

The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Khunti plotted against Jharkhand and India. The SNDi of new construction in Khunti rose steadily, compared to Jharkhand which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and India which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Khunti's incremental SNDi rose from 4.67 to 4.77 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Khunti ranked 20th out of 46 cities in Jharkhand and 939th out of 1868 in India as of 2020.

In new street additions, Khunti built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while Bobbili fluctuated in its street-construction patterns and Wolha-dong built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved. For the full network, Khunti became progressively more disconnected, while Bobbili became progressively more disconnected and Wolha-dong grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved. Notably, Khunti had a more connected network than Wolha-dong in 1975 but the two have since reversed their relative ranking.
