The SNDi of new construction in Islampur was at its lowest in 1976-1990, compared to Bihar which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and India which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Islampur's incremental SNDi rose from 3.37 to 5.48 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Islampur ranked 71st out of 264 cities in Bihar as of 2020.

In new street additions, Islampur built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then shifted to more disconnected patterns, while Talagang built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved and Yingshan fluctuated in its street-construction patterns. For the full network, Islampur became more connected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then grew more sprawly from 1991-2005 onwards, while Talagang became progressively more disconnected and Yingshan fluctuated in connectivity. Notably, Islampur had a more sprawly network than Talagang in 1975 but the two have since reversed their relative ranking.
