Nazira in context: Street-network sprawl trends

The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Nazira plotted against Assam and India. The SNDi of new construction in Nazira followed a zig-zag trend, compared to Assam which rose steadily and India which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. In terms of the aggregate network, Nazira ranked 5th out of 67 cities in Assam and 71st out of 1868 in India as of 2020.

Rankings go from most connected to most disconnected — rank 1 is the most connected.

In new street additions, Nazira fluctuated in its street-construction patterns, while Iwaki fluctuated in its street-construction patterns and Ninghua built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved. For the full network, Nazira became progressively more connected, while Iwaki became progressively more disconnected and Ninghua grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved. Nazira and Ninghua have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
