Miskolc in context: Street-network sprawl trends

The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Miskolc plotted against Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Hungary. While Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Hungary both rose steadily, Miskolc's new street additions rose steadily. Most recently, Miskolc's incremental SNDi rose from 4.65 to 4.9 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Miskolc ranked 1st out of 1 cities in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and 13th out of 13 in Hungary as of 2020.

In new street additions, Miskolc and Sangla Hill both built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while Erciş fluctuated in its street-construction patterns. For the full street network, though, all three cities follow the same trend. Miskolc and Erciş have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
