The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Gedeb plotted against Southern Nations, Nationalities and Ethiopia. The SNDi of new construction in Gedeb rose steadily, compared to Southern Nations, Nationalities which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and Ethiopia which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Gedeb's incremental SNDi rose from 1.57 to 2.77 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Gedeb ranked 7th out of 39 cities in Southern Nations, Nationalities and 30th out of 181 in Ethiopia as of 2020.

In new street additions, Gedeb built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while Sihanoukville built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then shifted to more disconnected patterns and Lianxing built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved. For the full network, Gedeb became progressively more disconnected, while Sihanoukville became more connected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then grew more sprawly from 1976-1990 onwards and Lianxing grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved.
