The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Butajira plotted against Southern Nations, Nationalities and Ethiopia. The SNDi of new construction in Butajira rose steadily, compared to Southern Nations, Nationalities which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and Ethiopia which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Butajira's incremental SNDi rose from 1.82 to 2.89 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Butajira ranked 18th out of 39 cities in Southern Nations, Nationalities and 69th out of 181 in Ethiopia as of 2020.

In new street additions, Butajira built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while Jaén built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved and Matli fluctuated in its street-construction patterns. For the full network, Butajira became progressively more disconnected, while Jaén grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved and Matli fluctuated in connectivity. Notably, Butajira had a more connected network than Jaén in 1975 but the two have since reversed their relative ranking.
