The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Melka Chireti plotted against Somali and Ethiopia. The SNDi of new construction in Melka Chireti was at its lowest in 1991-2005, compared to Somali which was at its lowest in 1991-2005 and Ethiopia which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Melka Chireti's incremental SNDi rose from 2.31 to 6.24 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Melka Chireti ranked 12th out of 12 cities in Somali and 177th out of 181 in Ethiopia as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
In new street additions, Melka Chireti built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then shifted to more disconnected patterns, while Nanzhao fluctuated in its street-construction patterns and Katol built increasingly disconnected streets over time. Looking at the full network, Nanzhao and Katol both became progressively more disconnected, while Melka Chireti fluctuated in connectivity. Melka Chireti and Nanzhao have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
