The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Mechara plotted against Oromia and Ethiopia. The SNDi of new construction in Mechara was at its lowest in 1976-1990, compared to Oromia which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and Ethiopia which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Mechara's incremental SNDi rose from 3.45 to 4.36 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Mechara ranked 53rd out of 71 cities in Oromia and 134th out of 181 in Ethiopia as of 2020.

While Ningcheng and Fengquan both built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved, Mechara built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then shifted to more disconnected patterns in new street additions. Looking at the full network, Ningcheng and Fengquan both became progressively more disconnected, while Mechara became more connected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then grew more sprawly from 1976-1990 onwards. Mechara and Ningcheng have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
