The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Asella plotted against Oromia and Ethiopia. The SNDi of new construction in Asella rose steadily, compared to Oromia which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and Ethiopia which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Asella's incremental SNDi rose from 2.53 to 3.57 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Asella ranked 37th out of 71 cities in Oromia and 90th out of 181 in Ethiopia as of 2020.

In new street additions, Asella built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while Bordj Bou Arreridjj fluctuated in its street-construction patterns and Somerset West built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved. For the full street network, though, all three cities follow the same trend. Asella and Bordj Bou Arreridjj have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
