The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Wegeda plotted against Amhara and Ethiopia. While Amhara and Ethiopia both followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase, Wegeda's new street additions followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Wegeda's incremental SNDi rose from 2.75 to 3.23 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Wegeda ranked 25th out of 41 cities in Amhara and 126th out of 181 in Ethiopia as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
While Panruti and Dawei both built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then shifted to more disconnected patterns, Wegeda fluctuated in its street-construction patterns in new street additions. Looking at the full network, Panruti and Dawei both became more connected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then grew more sprawly from 1991-2005 onwards, while Wegeda became progressively more disconnected. Wegeda and Panruti have been converging in their street-network character since 1975.
