The SNDi of new construction in El Ghanayem was at its lowest in 1976-1990, compared to Asyut which rose steadily and Egypt which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, El Ghanayem's incremental SNDi rose from 3.52 to 5.59 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, El Ghanayem ranked 6th out of 18 cities in Asyut and 114th out of 213 in Egypt as of 2020.

In new street additions, El Ghanayem built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then shifted to more disconnected patterns, while Tobolsk fluctuated in its street-construction patterns and Kizlyar built increasingly disconnected streets over time. Looking at the full network, Tobolsk and Kizlyar both became progressively more disconnected, while El Ghanayem became more connected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then grew more sprawly from 1976-1990 onwards. El Ghanayem and Kizlyar have been converging in their street-network character since 1975.
