The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Al Qusiya plotted against Asyut and Egypt. The SNDi of new construction in Al Qusiya rose steadily, compared to Asyut which rose steadily and Egypt which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Al Qusiya's incremental SNDi rose from 4.9 to 5.79 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Al Qusiya ranked 9th out of 18 cities in Asyut and 129th out of 213 in Egypt as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
Al Qusiya, Dinhata, and Tieling all built increasingly disconnected streets over time in new street construction. The same pattern holds for the full street network. Notably, Al Qusiya had a more sprawly network than Dinhata in 1975 but the two have since reversed their relative ranking.
