The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Otavalo plotted against Imbabura and Ecuador. The SNDi of new construction in Otavalo rose steadily, compared to Imbabura which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and Ecuador which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall decrease. Most recently, Otavalo's incremental SNDi rose from 3.06 to 3.41 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In new street additions, Otavalo and Zhudong both built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while Bikram built increasingly connected streets over time. For the full network, Otavalo and Zhudong both became progressively more disconnected, while Bikram became progressively more connected. Otavalo and Zhudong have been converging in their street-network character since 1975.
