Zhili in context: Street-network sprawl trends
Zhili in context
The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Zhili plotted against Zhejiang and China. All three follow the same trend in new construction, suggesting a shared regional pattern of development. Most recently, Zhili's incremental SNDi rose from 2.06 to 2.32 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Zhili ranked 21st out of 116 cities in Zhejiang and 380th out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

In new street additions, Zhili fluctuated in its street-construction patterns, while Dhekiajuli fluctuated in its street-construction patterns and Jamui built increasingly disconnected streets over time. For the full network, Zhili fluctuated in connectivity, while Dhekiajuli became progressively more disconnected and Jamui became progressively more disconnected. Notably, Zhili had a more sprawly network than Jamui in 1975 but the two have since reversed their relative ranking.
