Simao in context: Street-network sprawl trends
Simao in context
The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Simao plotted against Yunnan and China. The SNDi of new construction in Simao rose steadily, compared to Yunnan which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and China which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. What about similarly populated cities?
In new street additions, Simao and Zhongjiang both built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while Zhengding fluctuated in its street-construction patterns. For the full street network, though, all three cities follow the same trend. Notably, Simao had a more connected network than Zhengding in 1975 but the two have since reversed their relative ranking.
