The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Zhongjiang plotted against Sichuan and China. The SNDi of new construction in Zhongjiang rose steadily, compared to Sichuan which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and China which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Zhongjiang's incremental SNDi rose from 2.52 to 2.67 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Zhongjiang ranked 25th out of 98 cities in Sichuan and 589th out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
Zhongjiang, Simao, and Fujin all built increasingly disconnected streets over time in new street construction. The same pattern holds for the full street network. Zhongjiang and Simao have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
