The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Jinzhong plotted against Shanxi and China. The SNDi of new construction in Jinzhong fell steadily, compared to Shanxi which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and China which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Jinzhong's incremental SNDi fell from 2.85 to 2.31 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Jinzhong ranked 58th out of 80 cities in Shanxi and 1352nd out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
While Gaomi and Shizuoka both fluctuated in its street-construction patterns, Jinzhong built increasingly connected streets over time in new street additions. Looking at the full network, Gaomi and Shizuoka both became progressively more disconnected, while Jinzhong became progressively more connected. Jinzhong and Gaomi have been converging in their street-network character since 1975.
