The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Shouguang plotted against Shandong and China. While Shandong and China both followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase, Shouguang's new street additions followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Shouguang's incremental SNDi rose from 2.96 to 3.19 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Shouguang ranked 95th out of 124 cities in Shandong and 1012th out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
In new street additions, Shouguang and Portmore both fluctuated in its street-construction patterns, while Saki built increasingly disconnected streets over time. For the full street network, though, all three cities follow the same trend. Shouguang and Saki have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
