The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Ningyang plotted against Shandong and China. While Shandong and China both followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase, Ningyang's new street additions followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Ningyang's incremental SNDi rose from 1.9 to 2.25 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Ningyang ranked 35th out of 124 cities in Shandong and 202nd out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
In new street additions, Ningyang fluctuated in its street-construction patterns, while Elelim fluctuated in its street-construction patterns and Ise built increasingly disconnected streets over time. For the full network, Ningyang and Ise both became progressively more disconnected, while Elelim became progressively more connected. Ningyang and Elelim have been converging in their street-network character since 1975.
