The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Chenggu plotted against Shaanxi and China. While Shaanxi and China both followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase, Chenggu's new street additions followed a zig-zag trend with an overall decrease. Most recently, Chenggu's incremental SNDi rose from 2.94 to 2.99 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Chenggu ranked 41st out of 62 cities in Shaanxi and 1127th out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
In new street additions, Chenggu and Tartus both fluctuated in its street-construction patterns, while Hanshou built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then shifted to more disconnected patterns. Looking at the full network, Tartus and Hanshou both became progressively more disconnected, while Chenggu grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved. Chenggu and Hanshou have been converging in their street-network character since 1975.
