The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Zhongning plotted against Ningxia Hui and China. The SNDi of new construction in Zhongning rose steadily, compared to Ningxia Hui which peaked in 1976-1990 and China which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Zhongning's incremental SNDi rose from 2.02 to 2.63 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Zhongning ranked 9th out of 15 cities in Ningxia Hui and 284th out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

In new street additions, Zhongning built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while Tongcheng fluctuated in its street-construction patterns and Nathe Khalsa built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then shifted to more disconnected patterns. Looking at the full network, Tongcheng and Nathe Khalsa both became more connected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then grew more sprawly from 1976-1990 onwards, while Zhongning became progressively more disconnected. Zhongning and Tongcheng have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
