The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Tongliao plotted against Nei Mongol and China. The SNDi of new construction in Tongliao peaked in 1976-1990, compared to Nei Mongol which peaked in 1976-1990 and China which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Tongliao's incremental SNDi fell from 3.95 to 3.5 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Tongliao ranked 29th out of 43 cities in Nei Mongol and 1249th out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
While Amarah and Kebkabiya both fluctuated in its street-construction patterns, Tongliao built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved in new street additions. Looking at the full network, Amarah and Kebkabiya both fluctuated in connectivity, while Tongliao became progressively more disconnected. Notably, Tongliao had a more connected network than Amarah in 1975 but the two have since reversed their relative ranking.
