The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Kaiyuan plotted against Liaoning and China. All three follow the same trend in new construction, suggesting a shared regional pattern of development. Most recently, Kaiyuan's incremental SNDi rose from 3.96 to 4.29 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Kaiyuan ranked 47th out of 61 cities in Liaoning as of 2020.

In new street additions, Kaiyuan fluctuated in its street-construction patterns, while Pingdu built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved and Kaluga built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved. For the full network, Kaiyuan and Kaluga both became progressively more disconnected, while Pingdu grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved. Kaiyuan and Pingdu have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
