The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Ningjiang plotted against Jilin and China. The SNDi of new construction in Ningjiang peaked in 1991-2005, compared to Jilin which peaked in 1976-1990 and China which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Ningjiang's incremental SNDi fell from 4.38 to 3.72 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Ningjiang ranked 35th out of 47 cities in Jilin and 1309th out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
In new street additions, Ningjiang built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved, while Nawada built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then shifted to more disconnected patterns and Jowhar built increasingly disconnected streets over time. For the full network, Ningjiang and Jowhar both became progressively more disconnected, while Nawada became more connected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then grew more sprawly from 1976-1990 onwards.
