The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Liaoyuan plotted against Jilin and China. While Jilin and China both followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase, Liaoyuan's new street additions followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Liaoyuan's incremental SNDi rose from 3.43 to 4.45 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Liaoyuan ranked 27th out of 47 cities in Jilin and 968th out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
While Liyang and Wenling both built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved, Liaoyuan fluctuated in its street-construction patterns in new street additions. For the full network, Liaoyuan became progressively more disconnected, while Liyang grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved and Wenling grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved.
