The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Nanjing plotted against Jiangsu and China. The SNDi of new construction in Nanjing peaked in 1991-2005, compared to Jiangsu which peaked in 1976-1990 and China which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Nanjing's incremental SNDi fell from 3.4 to 3.37 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Nanjing ranked 64th out of 101 cities in Jiangsu and 1119th out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

While Chengdu and Riyadh both built increasingly disconnected streets over time, Nanjing built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved in new street additions. For the full street network, though, all three cities follow the same trend. Nanjing and Chengdu have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
