The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Dongkou plotted against Hunan and China. While Hunan and China both followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase, Dongkou's new street additions followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Dongkou's incremental SNDi rose from 2.12 to 3.03 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Dongkou ranked 40th out of 89 cities in Hunan and 820th out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
While Bijoynagar and Jilong both built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then shifted to more disconnected patterns, Dongkou fluctuated in its street-construction patterns in new street additions. Looking at the full network, Bijoynagar and Jilong both became more connected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then grew more sprawly from 1976-1990 onwards, while Dongkou fluctuated in connectivity. Notably, Dongkou had a more connected network than Bijoynagar in 1975 but the two have since reversed their relative ranking.
