All three follow the same trend in new construction, suggesting a shared regional pattern of development. Most recently, Bencheng's incremental SNDi rose from 1.8 to 3.43 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Bencheng ranked 9th out of 120 cities in Hebei and 273rd out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

In new street additions, Bencheng and Amarawa both fluctuated in its street-construction patterns, while Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa built increasingly disconnected streets over time. Looking at the full network, Amarawa and Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa both became progressively more disconnected, while Bencheng fluctuated in connectivity. Notably, Bencheng had a more sprawly network than Amarawa in 1975 but the two have since reversed their relative ranking.
