All three follow the same trend in new construction, suggesting a shared regional pattern of development. Most recently, Qionghai's incremental SNDi rose from 3.05 to 4.0 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Qionghai ranked 8th out of 17 cities in Hainan and 1305th out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

While El-Usayrat and Kafanchan both built increasingly disconnected streets over time, Qionghai fluctuated in its street-construction patterns in new street additions. Looking at the full network, El-Usayrat and Kafanchan both became progressively more disconnected, while Qionghai fluctuated in connectivity. Qionghai and El-Usayrat have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
