The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Shixing plotted against Guangdong and China. All three follow the same trend in new construction, suggesting a shared regional pattern of development. Most recently, Shixing's incremental SNDi rose from 2.87 to 4.65 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Shixing ranked 74th out of 133 cities in Guangdong and 1267th out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
In new street additions, Shixing and Itaúna both fluctuated in its street-construction patterns, while Balashov built increasingly disconnected streets over time. Looking at the full network, Itaúna and Balashov both became progressively more disconnected, while Shixing fluctuated in connectivity. Shixing and Balashov have been converging in their street-network character since 1975.
