All three follow the same trend in new construction, suggesting a shared regional pattern of development. Most recently, Tongnan's incremental SNDi rose from 1.73 to 1.82 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Tongnan ranked 3rd out of 47 cities in Chongqing and 184th out of 1843 in China as of 2020.

In new street additions, Tongnan fluctuated in its street-construction patterns, while Wollongong built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved and Rubaya built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then shifted to more disconnected patterns. For the full network, Tongnan grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved, while Wollongong became progressively more disconnected and Rubaya became progressively more connected. Tongnan and Wollongong have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
