The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Ribeira plotted against Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. The SNDi of new construction in Ribeira rose steadily, compared to Rio de Janeiro which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and Brazil which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Ribeira's incremental SNDi rose from 5.26 to 7.14 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Ribeira ranked 9th out of 22 cities in Rio de Janeiro and 277th out of 365 in Brazil as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
In new street additions, Ribeira and Karauli both built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while Jorhat built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved. For the full street network, though, all three cities follow the same trend.
