The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Petrópolis plotted against Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. The SNDi of new construction in Petrópolis rose steadily, compared to Rio de Janeiro which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and Brazil which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Petrópolis's incremental SNDi rose from 7.19 to 8.42 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Petrópolis ranked 21st out of 22 cities in Rio de Janeiro and 363rd out of 365 in Brazil as of 2020.

What about similarly populated cities?
In new street additions, Petrópolis and Subang both built increasingly disconnected streets over time, while Tiruvallur built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then shifted to more disconnected patterns. For the full network, Petrópolis and Subang both became progressively more disconnected, while Tiruvallur became more connected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then grew more sprawly from 1991-2005 onwards. Petrópolis and Tiruvallur have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
