Moulvibazar in context: Street-network sprawl trends

The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Moulvibazar plotted against Sylhet and Bangladesh. The SNDi of new construction in Moulvibazar peaked in 1991-2005, compared to Sylhet which rose steadily and Bangladesh which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase. Most recently, Moulvibazar's incremental SNDi fell from 9.57 to 6.13 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Moulvibazar ranked 9th out of 24 cities in Sylhet and 99th out of 234 in Bangladesh as of 2020.

In new street additions, Moulvibazar built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved, while Thanh Hoá built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved and Domariaganj built increasingly connected streets from 1975 through 1976-1990, then shifted to more disconnected patterns. For the full network, Moulvibazar became progressively more disconnected, while Thanh Hoá grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1976-1990, then improved and Domariaganj became more connected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then grew more sprawly from 1991-2005 onwards. Moulvibazar and Thanh Hoá have been growing further apart in their street-network character since 1975.
