The chart above shows SNDi trends for new street additions (left panel) and the entire network (right panel), with Matala plotted against Huíla and Angola. The SNDi of new construction in Matala followed a zig-zag trend with an overall decrease, compared to Huíla which followed a zig-zag trend with an overall increase and Angola which rose steadily. Most recently, Matala's incremental SNDi fell from 2.49 to 1.37 between 1991-2005 and 2006-2020. In terms of the aggregate network, Matala ranked 4th out of 6 cities in Huíla and 27th out of 56 in Angola as of 2020.

In new street additions, Matala fluctuated in its street-construction patterns, while Shahe built increasingly disconnected streets from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved and M'banza Congo built increasingly disconnected streets over time. For the full network, Matala became progressively more connected, while Shahe grew more disconnected from 1975 through 1991-2005, then improved and M'banza Congo became progressively more disconnected. Notably, Matala had a more sprawly network than Shahe in 1975 but the two have since reversed their relative ranking.
